Why can’t I enter my Final Exam marks in the gradebook?

by | Jul 6, 2017 | Canvas tips, Marking and grading

Here’s a brief guide for setting up a Final Exam assignment, so that you can enter your Final Exam marks in the gradebook.

My course doesn’t use weightings

  1. Go to Assignments > +Assignment to create a Final Exam assignment.
  2. Save and publish the assignment.
  3. Go to Grades and mute the assignment.

You’re now ready to enter your Final Exam marks.

My course uses weightings

  1. Go to Assignments > +Group to create a Final Exam assignment group.
  2. Select the cog (settings) button beside +Assignment and choose Assignment groups weight.
  3. In the popup window, enter the weight for each group as required.
  4. Go to Assignments > +Assignment.
  5. Select the correct Assignment Group for this assignment and enter the correct number of points the assignment is being marked out of (e.g. 100 points).
  6. Save and publish the assignment.
  7. Go to Grades and mute the assignment.

You’re now ready to enter your Final Exam marks.

Tips

  • If you’ve created an assignment but it is not showing in the gradebook, you need to publish and mute this assignment.
  • Your assignment can be unmuted (to make marks available to students) once you’re happy with these marks.
