Cultural ties that bind: Canvas and the University of Auckland

InstructureCon 2017, the annual Canvas conference, took place late last month. Instructure premiered a short video about the University of Auckland during one of the keynotes. The video highlights the work that Damon Salesa and Marina McCartney are doing with their students in Te Wānanga o Waipapa – School of Māori Studies and Pacific Studies.

Many students at the University of Auckland in New Zealand face challenges and make sacrifices when they transition into an unfamiliar educational environment. By embracing their similar cultural backgrounds and connecting with each other through digital technology, including the Canvas learning management system (LMS), the fears can fade and students can engage together and experience an “equity of opportunity.”
