Gradebook 0.5 – invitation to participate

The University of Auckland has been chosen to participate in the focus group of the new Canvas Gradebook. We are now looking for staff who would like to test the new features in the Test Environment.

This stage of development is called Gradebook Phase 0.5 and has limited features. That being said, it gives an idea of most functionalities which will be available once Gradebook Phase 2 is implemented at the end of next year.

This is a good opportunity for us to have our say, so if you are interested in participating in the focus group send an email to Brigida O Figueira with the following details:

  • Name and Username/UPI
  • Course name

Gradebook enhancements

Release plan

Phase 0.5

Currently in production for Universities participating in the Focus Group.

Restricted access at the moment. Only admins can turn it on and it is possible to switch between versions.

Phase 1

Release date December 2017/January 2018

Unrestricted access. Instructors will be able to turn it on, but won’t be able to switch back once activated.

Phase 2

Release date July 2018 (Winter 2018)

Unrestricted access. Instructors will be able to turn it on, but won’t be able to switch back once activated.

Once this phase is completed they will phase out the old gradebook.

Interesting Features

  • Unlimited grade history.
  • Instructors will be able to mark late submissions.
  • Instructors will be able to set up policies for late submissions.
  • Filters will be applied to all areas of the gradebook.
  • Columns can be moved (e.g., Total)
  • Unpublished assignments will be on the gradebook by default, but can be removed if the instructor chooses to.
  • Secondary identifiers will be available.
  • Students will see late and missing ‘pills’ in their gradebook view.
  • Adjust final grade (phase 2)
