We are delighted to introduce UoA Tutoring Central – a new home for tutor training and professional development resources.
UoA Tutoring Central is intended to be flexible and meet a variety of needs. It includes modules on aspects of the tutoring role, resources collated from within and outside the University, including links to Faculty tutor training pages, and spaces for tutors to connect and discuss. Any University of Auckland Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA), Teaching Assistant (TA), or tutor can access it for self-directed professional development to enhance existing training they have received, or to prepare for a tutoring role if they have not had the opportunity to receive any training. These modules can also be used as part of an organised training programme delivered by programmes, Faculties or central units.
In addition, there is a staff-only section of the website that is available to staff who are planning and delivering tutor training. This section includes an exemplar workshop timetable, runsheets and slide sets for all sessions, and a workbook design. These resources can be used in their entirety as a two-day workshop, or mixed and matched to existing training to meet the needs of programme or teaching contexts.
UoA Tutoring Central has been developed in response to best-practice literature, a comprehensive study of University of Auckland GTA, TA and tutor experiences of training and their tutor roles conducted in Semester 2 2020, and a pilot across two faculties in Semester 1 2021. We warmly welcome feedback, suggestions, contributions, and links to programme- or faculty-specific resources; contact us at UoATutoringCentral@auckland.ac.nz
