- Create assignments and modify assignment settings. Assignment types include quizzes, graded discussions and online submissions (individual/group assignments).
- Add assignment groups with assignment groups and weighting.
- Assign an assignment to everyone in the course, to a section or to a student.
- Set up an online submission assignment as a Turnitin assignment.
- For online submissions, place restrictions on the type of file students can upload.
- Use draft state to keep assignments in an unpublished (draft) state. Unpublished content is invisible to students and graded assignments are excluded from grade calculations.
- Create ungraded activities that align with course outcomes.
- Set up peer reviews.
- Record attendance.

- Create and manage Turnitin assignments in your Canvas course using the Turnitin LTI.
- In the Turnitin LTI, Canvas authenticates users according to their Canvas roles. You do not need to create a separate Turnitin account to access Turnitin in Canvas.
- Once you have created and published an assignment as a Turnitin assignment, students submit their assignments directly in Canvas.

Assignment groups and weighting
Organise the assignments in your course and apply weighting to themFeatures and options
- Add assignment groups.
- Weight final grades based on assignment groups.
- Within each assignment group, Canvas calculates a percentage by dividing the total points a student has earned by the total points possible for all assignments in that group.

New Quizzes offers new features including:
- Student quiz accommodations (special conditions) for the whole course (not just quiz by quiz!)
- Shuffle answers by question
- Printing quizzes
- Require waiting period between attempts
- Stimulus, ordering, and hot spot question types.
Canvas will be phasing out the use of Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes will become the default quizzing engine in 2023.
Features and options (Classic Quiz)
- Add quizzes and modify quiz settings. Canvas has four quiz types: graded quizzes, practice quizzes (ungraded), graded surveys (points for completion) and ungraded surveys.
- Assign a quiz to everyone in the course, to a section or to a student.
- Open quizzes for a limited amount of time.
- Use draft state to keep quizzes in an unpublished (draft) state. Unpublished content is invisible to students and graded quizzes are excluded from grade calculations.

- Instructors can select Google Assignments as an external tool when they create a new assignment, which enables:
- File attachment to an assignment so each student gets their own copy to edit and submit.
- Missed citation checks and possible plagiarism with the originality reports feature.
- Students can submit Drive files to Canvas assignments, then instructors can grade in SpeedGrader™.
- Embed Drive files with the Canvas rich text editor.
- Add Drive files to Canvas Modules.
